RESOURCES Unwanted
Mail If
unwanted mail is starting to pile up around you, there is hope! Send a postcard or letter to Direct Marketing Association, P.O. Box 9008, Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008. Ask them to activate the preference service. Include all versions of your name (including misspellings) and complete address. This will stop mail from being sent to you by companies you have not ordered products from, for up to five years. For other creative options and free templates for letters visit,

or

you are ready to part with some of your possessions, donating them is a wonderful way to share your “treasures”. Depending on the organization, you may also receive a tax deduction.
Before donating an item make sure it is not broken, unusable, or expired. If it can be donated, start by considering the needs of your local community. Is there a senior facility, church, shelter, school, community center, hospital, library, thrift shop, or local charity that could use your possessions?
Not sure where to start? Here is a list of organizations accepting donations. When making a donation, make sure you ask them what items they will and won’t accept and whether they will pick the items up. The criteria may vary depending on location.
(Note: Breathing Space does not specifically endorse these organizations. Names are listed in alphabetic order.)
