Have you ever wondered what a professional organizer does? Some people think a professional organizer just takes away all of the clutter people tend to accumulate over time and no longer use. Some people think that an organizer is some sort of interior designer. The truth is that a professional organizer is somewhere in between. An organizer plays the role of listener, sounding board, value estimator, discard resource specialist, space designer, and physical assistant. All of these roles are important to achieve the goals of professional organizing - to get a space in functional order in a way that feels and looks good and design systems and processes to easily maintain it over time. Once done well, professional organizing should transform these spaces into a joy to use, rather than a source of stress and frustration.
For example...
A well-organized kitchen makes it enjoyable to make the foods that support your healthy lifestyle and entertain friends and family.
Al well-organized closet allows you to leverage your wardrobe to feel as good as you did when you first selected each piece.
A well-organized office space makes it easier to handle 'must-do' tasks and move on to the things that energize and inspire you.
But What is it Like to Work With an Organizer?
You might now be thinking, "O.k., I understand what professional organizing is and have an idea of what it can do for me, but how do I work with an organizer to get there?"
The fundamentals of organizing are rather simple - prioritize, categorize, downsize, and reorganize. In fact, you can follow these steps yourself! However, this doesn't mean it's easy to go it alone. It's like getting in shape, eating well, or training for a marathon. We can source a plan online and follow the steps that others have used to achieve these goals. But often it gives us a greater advantage for success to have a partner with some expert advice, knowledge of available resources, and, literally, a helping hand.
My goal as a professional organizer is to not only help ensure the project is ultimately successful but also to make the process straightforward and enjoyable. Admittedly, some of the initial decision making can feel a bit difficult at first, but once you start to see...and, more importantly, feel the results, it gets easier and, yes, even enjoyable. The key is to develop a plan and a rhythm that gets you where you wan to go in a way that avoids making you feel overwhelmed, a common problem for people in getting more organized. We'll work together from the initial, complimentary consultation through to project completion to achieve your design goals.
Of course, the path for working together may look different for each client. Some people prefer to work lock-step with me all through the process to make decisions on the fly and pivot, as necessary. Other people would rather establish goals and guidelines up front and enjoy a reveal at the end when the project is complete. I'm comfortable with either model or a hybrid of both. We'll determine what works best for YOU and get the job done so you can start experiencing the wellness benefits of good organization immediately.
If you're ready to explore how we can partner to get you over the obstacles that have been preventing you from getting organized and experiencing the wellness benefits of doing so, let's chat about your project. After a brief phone call to discuss the space and goals you have in mind, I'll conduct a complimentary 1-hour onsite consultation to discuss the details. Then, it's up to you. We'll proceed as is comfortable. I sincerely want this to be a good experience and have a generous refund policy to ensure it is one. O.k., let's get started...and find YOUR breathing space:)
